Sports Program
Empowering Youth Through Play, Purpose, and Possibility
At Glad’s House Kenya, we believe that sport is more than a game — it’s a powerful tool for healing, growth, and transformation. For children and youth who have experienced trauma, exclusion, and life on the streets, sports offer a safe and structured space to reconnect with themselves, build confidence, and rediscover hope.
Our Sports Program uses football and other physical activities as a gateway to holistic development, inclusion, and empowerment for vulnerable young people in Mombasa.
What the Program Offers:
- Safe Spaces for Expression and Healing
Many of the children we support have endured violence, abuse, and rejection. Through regular sports sessions, we create safe, trauma-informed environments where they can build trust, release stress, and experience joy — sometimes for the first time in years. - Life Skills Through Sport
Our program integrates lessons in teamwork, discipline, goal-setting, leadership, and conflict resolution. These essential life skills are woven into every session, helping young people translate lessons from the field into daily life. - Talent Development and Opportunities
We nurture sporting talent and link promising athletes to local clubs, tournaments, and mentorship opportunities. For some, sport becomes a career pathway; for all, it becomes a source of identity and self-worth. - Social Inclusion and Community Building
Street-connected youth often face stigma and isolation. Sports bring people together — breaking down barriers and building friendships across different backgrounds. Our mixed teams include youth from diverse communities, helping foster understanding and acceptance. - Linkages to Support Services
Sport is often the first point of contact with Glad’s House Kenya. Once trust is built on the field, we can connect young people to education, healthcare, counseling, and our broader programs — using sport as a bridge to deeper transformation.
Why It Matters
For many street-connected children, sport is a rare space where they are not judged by their past, but seen for their potential.
It gives them structure.
It gives them purpose.
It gives them back their childhood.
At Glad’s House Kenya, we use sport not just to play — but to build futures.
